Remember Leslie? To reflect on how much waste the average American makes (4.3 pounds per day), she took a week-long zero waste challenge. For seven whole days she made it her mission to throw nothing away, even fruit rinds, which she stored in an old yogurt container turned compost bucket.
This Buzzfeed editor took a different approach to looking at trash. She carried her garbage around everywhere she went for a week, and things got heavy. With her average of 4.5 pounds a day, she was lugging around upwards of 30 pounds of waste by the end of the week! Watch her experiment below.
Protip: Recycling and composting may not make your trash bags lighter, but they will divert waste from the landfill.
